magrette regattare 2011

now this is an awesome looking timepiece, 50's diver watch meets panerai with the added bonus of an internal bezel system, the inclusion of both a soft leather and rubber diver straps, and the knowledge that due to a very limited supply, you're highly unlikely to see anyone else wearing one. magrette is a relatively new watchmaker from auckland, new zealand, if I'm not mistaken this is only their second or third watch. cracking job dion.

Not quite what I expected from Parrot

Parrot AR DroneBut ace, it's a new remote control helicopter from Parrot (yes the car bluetooth people wtf?) Called the AR.Drone, it's a “quadricopter” that can be controlled and viewed with an IPhone through a WiFi connection.

What really sets this apart is that you can control it with your IPhone using the accelerometers which will sense which way you tip the phone and maneuver the AR.Drone accordingly. The quadricopter also has a couple of cameras on board, one for “seeing” what the AR.Drone sees real-time through the iPhone, but also another camera on the bottom which can track speed and help the ‘copter maintain a still flight.

As if that’s not enough Parrot has also released an open platform allowing developers to create augmented reality games through the iPhone for the AR.Drone. No details on pricing or release date yet but it's likely to be this year.

exit stage left

While visiting South Beach for last years Winter Music Conference I wandered into the Kid Robot store on Collins Ave and spotted this ace canvas amongst the dunnies. The store was hosting an exhibition for Connecticut based visual artist Sket One. As it happened my week in Miami was drawing to a close (in a drunken blur) and I'd spent up, so dropping $400 on a painting was kinda out of the question, not to mention the fact it wouldn't fit in my bag... fast track to January 2010, and I've just taken delivery of this bad boy featuring Sket One's character "Ripple". This is properly sick. Anyway if you want one, You'll have to ask for a commission as there's no prints, only original artworks for sale. I've got to say thanks to Andy Sket One for this stellar job.

folk people scarf is enormous

folk people scarfFolk make alpaca knits in Peru, shirts in Portugal, jackets in Hong Kong, accessories in England, merino knitwear in Uruguay, but their shop is in Holborn, Not that I've ever been in it, I usually get their stuff in Oi Polloi, or sometimes Ok Ni. Anyway this scarf is huge, it's absolutely gigantic, made of Peruvian Llama's and it's the best scarf I've bought in ages. You can even get various matching items including an ace cardigan and a silly hat. I love it. More like this please.

lighting up in style

S.T. Dupont Line 2 - Palladium & Green Rubber

St. Dupont make the classiest, and most ridiculously expensive lighters around, these things are like a rolex you can light a cig with... jewelry with fire. The gold models go for 15-20 grand.

This Palladium and Rubber finished one goes for around $600, admittedly still a fortune for a lighter but it's lovely, weighs around the same as a small family car and just oozes quality and style... Effortlessly cool, although utterly useless on a windy day.

Oh and they make nice pens too.

iphone clothes

Speck Fitted

Speck Fitted IPhone Case

Been meaning to pick one of these up for a while and finally shelled out for one. It's a hard shell with a fabric covered back. Got the Houndstooth one (bottom on the pic) and I have to say I'm impressed, this is properly stylin... not dropped the thing yet but I'm fairly sure it could take a fairly decent knock... best cover I've seen in ages, might have to get the other two designs now too... more over at www.speckproducts.com

ridiculous amounts of snow

useless

useless

As I went to bed last night this morning it had begun to snow a lot... anyway when I woke up this morning my car was almost buried in the snow. A complete waste of time, If it wasn't for my good pal Lisa with her dirty great big 4x4 merc I might have even had to walk to the pub, the humanity!... All over town, nobody made it to work and the streets were full of the unusual sight of people walking and countless abandoned cars. Whitefield just isn't equipped to deal with heavy snow. Apparently its the worst in 50 years... I'm told it's going to get worse tonight, so glad I don't have to drive to work. As it happens I'm sat on the sofa eating pasta with a duvet and the fire burning, lovely. Looks like I'll be doing a lot of blogging this month.
